Fuel efficiency focus

As well as lowering the environmental impact of the diesel combustion process, many of the latest Stage IV/Tier 4 Final-equipped construction machines have also been demonstrating fuel efficiency savings over older ranges. This taps into a cost issue that is of growing importance to many contractors. Ewen Gilchrist, director of global sales and marketing at Doosan ADT said the latest field tests on new Tier 4 Final /Stage IV-compliant' DA40 ADT model showed positive results. The 40 tonne class DA40 delivered an average fuel consumption figure of 17 litres an hour. Mr Gilchrist said this was an improvement on the Tier 4 Interim engine phase for the same model and was down to a combination of features including the new Scania selective catalytic reduction diesel engines and the new ZF transmissions.
