Unions slam World Cup working conditions

It is estimated that over 4,000 workers could die during construciton work in preparation for the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) 2022 football World Cup unless Qatar introduces reforms and meets international labour laws, according to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). FIFA, the international governing body for football, reported on 13 February to the European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights on efforts to improve working conditions in the country.
