Broadcasters depend absolutely on automation to run their on-air presentation, so ensuring that the system keeps running is essential. Despite everyone's best efforts, things will go wrong and every broadcaster worth his salt has to take precautions against this.Typically this may involve duplication of critical parts of the automation but often this is not the simplest or most reliable answer. The failure could lie in the technology itself- like software that refuses to run on Friday 13th. Adding more of the same is not necessarily the best solution -and it may well be the least cost-effective.
