HD Post― more than hi-res SD

HD post is really beginning to take off, not only in markets where HD is already broadcast or planned to be in the near future (US, Australia, Japan, Korea and China), but also all around Europe and in parts of Asia. While in HD-broadcasting countries, the imperatives are obvious - in the US over 30 per cent of prime- time dramas are now produced in HD - there are powerful reasons for producing in HD else- where. These range from prolonging shelf life, to shared TV/theatrical release, international sales and distribution in the HD 24P Universal Mastering format, and increasingly, reduced costs against the film shoot and telecine route using the new generation of HD cameras. There's another good reason too, material post- ed in HD for SD transmission looks much bet- ter at SD than SD-posted material.
