Neater and slicker: vision mixing in the sports world

With respect to what happens on the playing field, the laws of how football, rugby, and golf are played change rarely from year to year. In the control room, however, the rules of the game for sports broadcasts have evolved dramatically since the mid 1990s. Those of us older than 30 can remember when the director and the vision mixer for most sports events was one and the same person. Today, in most places, these are distinct roles - thanks to efforts by broadcasters to make the experience of watching sports at home more dynamic and engaging.
