Carton packages are lightweight, convenient, protect their contents and can be recycled - the benefits of aseptic beverage cartons are self evident. Until recently, these cartons were almost invariably rectangular. With its packaging innovation, 'combishape', which premiered at the Anuga FoodTec 2003, SIC Combibloc provides beverage cartons with creative shapes - a simple idea essentially, but highly complex in reality and one that SIG Combibloc has been working on for a number of years. Anuga visitors were able to see the prototype combishape line operating alongside a second SIG Combibloc packaging system, creating oval cartons, filling them, applying screw caps and then finally placing them accurately into trays.
