Aquatic Biology Research Unit - a forerunner of water pollution research in Finland

The Aquatic Biology Research Unit played an important role in Finland by attaching scientific importance to pollution matters and bringing them to the attention of the scientific community. In fulfilling its task of providing scientific expertise on water pollution, the unit was noteworthy for its ability to cooperate with various sectors of society. From a scientific point of view, its main achievement was the introduction of biological methods in evaluating the pollution of water bodies in Finland.
