George W. Bush's foreign policies: principles and pragmatism

The authors of this book on the presidency of George W. Bush offer new insight by challenging the conventional conceptualizations of the foreign policy his administrations enacted. Donette Murray, David Brown and Martin A. Smith argue that there is a need to acknowledge the shades of grey within Bush's foreign policy, beyond the current and prevailing 'black and white' view. This is reflected in the way in which the chapters are set out, with an examination of Bush's policy on AIDS/HIV preceding those on topics more readily associated with the Bush presidency: the 'war on terror' and the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. After examining Bush's principled approach to AIDS/HIV, the authors explore his pragmatism, or lack thereof, with regard to US relations with China and Russia, and the Middle East peace process.
