A lifetime's change in LIS

Purpose - To investigate and comment on changes in LIS during a lifetime in libraries, half of it spent in senior positions. Design/methodology/approach - Narrative reminiscence. Findings - Dramatic changes have occurred in the use of technology, management and attitudes to users, but most of them were initiated by non-librarians. LIS needs more leaders and innovators. Originality/value - Reflections on a lifetime in librarianship by one of its leading practitioners and the subject of this festschrift.
