We have characterized and quantified some dynamic and nonlinear effects related to the calibration of a quadrupole mass spectrometer (QMS200, Pfeiffer Vacuum) subject to forced gas composition perturbations. The QMS hyphenated to thermogravimetric analyzer with differential thermal analysis and micro-gas chromatograph is used for mapping ion-current response factors of gases evolving from biomass gasification. Aerodynamic effects, related to the evolving gas mixture viscosity and density during compositional perturbations in the carrier gas, have been shown to cause short-term sensor drift and change in ionization chamber total pressure. These deviations become more important with the increase in contrast with respect to the carrier gas properties.
