The Olympics came early to Complexo de Alemao. This favela high in the hills above Rio de Janeiro enjoys some of the most stunning vistas in a city filled with breathtaking beauty. For decades, however, the slum's 65,000 residents have had to endure a far grittier reality of grinding poverty, violent crime and rampant drug traf ficking, a world away from the beaches,bars and bronzed bodles of exclusive oceanfront nelghborhoods like Leblon and ipanema.
