摘要

"I can always tell if someone new enters, or has entered, the train carriage!" "How is that?" "I am one of a group of commuters who travel on the same train every day of the week. And not only that, but we tend to sit in the same seat if we can. We are all creatures of habit. So, if there is someone new in the carriage, you spot them immediately. There is a change to the norm and it stands out." This recent conversation with my son followed on from an experience of my own, which really showed how we easily become creatures of habit and can be unsettled by sudden change. One Saturday, I had my day planned out with various activities to complete. But before I started, I thought I would quickly nip down and get my hair cut. I drove to the barber's I have used over the past few years. I even had a loyalty card for the shop, although I always forgot to take it with me. As I pulled into the car park opposite I saw that the shutters were still down. Well, it was quite early so I sauntered over to the shop only to find that it had closed down for good. I was bereft! What do I do? Where do I go now? My plans for the day could be ruined in one fell swoop.
