SECAF: Cooperation with Army, Navy fueling hypersonic development

Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson estimates a pact she signed with her Army and Navy counterparts pledging cooperation on hypersonic technology development will accelerate her service's plans to field an air-launched, ultra-fast, maneuvering weapon by five years - an agreement that requires the Air Force to feed the results of its new prototyping projects across the Defense Department. Wilson, asked on Sept. 18 during a press conference at the Air Force Association annual meeting what the service was doing in light of reports that China and Russia are advancing hypersonic weapon programs, pointed to recent collaboration with Army Secretary Mike Esper and Navy Secretary Richard Spencer on similar U.S. technology development.
