Pentagon Proposes Plan To Realign DOD's Senior Civilian Hierarchy

The Office of the Secretary of Defense is proposing a wide range of organizational changes to clarify the hierarchy of the Pentagon's upper-civilian ranks by retitling more than 20 deputy under secretary of defense posts and branding a number of long-standing senior officials with new assistant secretary of defense titles.rnOn April 15, the Pentagon provided Congress a fourth batch of legislative proposals to be considered in tandem with the Defense Department's fiscal year 2011 spending request, including language to amend statutory provisions necessary to reduce the number of DUSD positions and realign OSD's structure as required by the Fiscal Year 2010 Defense Authorization Act.
