Stackley: DOD Blessing To Build First JHSV Advances Time-Critical Work

The Pentagon has decided to kick off production of the first Joint High Speed Vessel apart from the next four catamarans in the class to speed along time-critical work, according to Navy acquisition chief Sean Stackley.rnDefense Department acquisition chief Ashton Carter's Dec. 19, 2009, acquisition decision memorandum -- that approved the Navy's request to begin construction of the lead ship Fortitude (JHSV-1), an Army vessel - notes Carter "will consider the Navy's request to proceed with ships 2 through 5 at a later date." Carter is expected to approve construction of those hulls in a second memo, Inside the Pentagon reported last week.
