DOD Wants To Narrow Definition Of Commercial Item To Ensure Fair Prices

The Pentagon wants lawmakers to narrow the definition of a commercial item to ensure goods and services are acquired at fair and reasonable prices and to preclude abuse. In a second set of legislative proposals submitted last month, the Defense Department calls on Congress to alter the broad definition that has allowed contracting officials to "award contracts for defense systems and subsystems that had no commercial market."
