DOT&E: Next-Gen Maritime Satellite Terminal 'Not Operationally Suitable'

The Pentagon's top weapons tester has found that the Navy Multiband Terminal, built by Raytheon to modernize communications between satellites and the service's ships, submarines and land-based operations centers, is not operationally suitable. Michael Gilmore, the Defense Department's director of operational test and evaluation, has also determined that the NMT system is operationally effective following initial testing and evaluation last summer, yielding results to support the Navy's recommendation to proceed with full-rate production, according to a previously unreported November 2011 assessment.
