APPARATUS AND A METHOD FOR CONTROLLING OPERATIONAL STATES OF A MEDIA ACCESS CONTROL LAYER IN A BROADBAND WIRELESS ACCESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM, PARTICULARLY FOR SUPPORTING MOBILITY OF SUBSCRIBER TERMINALS AND HIGH SPEED DATA TRANSMISSION BY PROVIDING NEW SUITABLE MAC LAYER OPERATIONAL STATES
APPARATUS AND A METHOD FOR CONTROLLING OPERATIONAL STATES OF A MEDIA ACCESS CONTROL LAYER IN A BROADBAND WIRELESS ACCESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM, PARTICULARLY FOR SUPPORTING MOBILITY OF SUBSCRIBER TERMINALS AND HIGH SPEED DATA TRANSMISSION BY PROVIDING NEW SUITABLE MAC LAYER OPERATIONAL STATES
PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling operational states of an MAC(Media Access Control) layer in a broadband wireless access communication system are provided to maximize data transmission efficiency by minimizing power consumption when data transmission/reception is suspended and performing fast access when data transmission/reception is resumed. CONSTITUTION: When a subscriber terminal normally enters a network, monitors a DL-USCCH(Downlink-Uplink Scheduling Channel) transmitted from a base station and senses that there is data to be transmitted to the subscriber terminal, the subscriber terminal is transited from an initial state(213) to a traffic state(1311). If the subscriber terminal loses synchronization with the base station due to a system error in the traffic state, the subscriber terminal is transited to a null state(211) to perform an initial operation(1321). When the subscriber terminal senses that there is data to be transmitted from the base station to the subscriber terminal in a sleeping state(215), the subscriber terminal enters an active mode(1300) of the traffic state(1313). When data transmission/reception between the base station and the subscriber is completed, the subscriber terminal is transited to the sleeping state(215)(1315). When the subscriber terminal successfully accesses an uplink in an access state(217), the subscriber terminal enters the active mode(1300) of the traffic state(1319) or enters a fast access mode(1330)(1317).
