Information technology associations have begun to weigh in on administration plans to anchor cybersecurity requirements in federal acquisition policies, urging the adoption of existing, global industry standards over new, U.S.-specific enforcement mechanisms. The comments come in response to a request for information by the General Services Administration and the Defense Department published in mid-May. Earlier this year, an executive order tasked the two agencies with writing a report about how acquisition policies should be altered to minimize cyber threats, including the entrance of malicious or faulty electronics components into government systems.
