Congress OKs Funds To Boost Persian Gulf Countermine Capabilities

Congress has approved Pentagon requests to reprogram nearly $40 million within Navy modernization programs, shifting funds to meet the U.S. 5th Fleet Commander's request for enhanced capabilities to counter mines in the Persian Gulf and bolstering Littoral Combat Ship research and development efforts. The Pentagon's comptroller disclosed the reprogramming request to shift $39.6 million among fiscal year 2012 appropriations this week;it was sent to Congress last November.
