Defense Department officials are planning "substantial" reductions in the number of contractors supporting military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq during fiscal year 2013, according to a new Pentagon report. In Afghanistan, fewer contractors will be needed mainly because of "targeted reductions" in the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program, the report states. The completion of U.S. projects, site consolidations and more services by the Iraqi government will enable contractor reductions in that country, according to the document.
