JCTD Focus Shifting In FY-15 From Immediate Needs To Strategic Initiatives

A Pentagon shop with two-decades' experience rapidly fielding weapon systems outside the traditional acquisition process is shifting its focus from exclusively addressing near-term combatant commander needs to working on longer-term projects that address strategic initiatives such as capabilities to operate in anti-access, area-denial environments and to counter weapons of mass destruction. Beginning in fiscal year 2015, the office responsible for managing Joint Capability Technology Demonstrations will pare back the number of projects it launches as part of an intentional shift away from focusing -- as it has for more than a decade -- on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq in order to address U.S. military needs in the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East.
