Congress seeks military intelligence program details in budget materials

In an aim to gain more insight into the services' military intelligence programs, lawmakers are calling on the defense secretary to lay out new details on the programs in the annual budget justification books. In the fiscal year 2016 omnibus spending bill, approved by the House and Senate last week and signed by the president Dec. 18, lawmakers note that the "current budget justification material submitted for the operation and maintenance portion of the military intelligence program (MIP) and the exhibits for the security programs sub-activity groups (SAGs) in the operation and maintenance Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force accounts do not provide full visibility into requested funding which limits congressional oversight."
