House Panel Seeks Details On SOCOM's Intelligence Programs, TALOS Suit

A House Armed Services subcommittee wants to restrict U.S. Special Operations Command modernization funding until the panel receives more information on the command's intelligence activities. In its mark of the fiscal year 2015 defense authorization bill, released Tuesday, the intelligence, emerging threats and capabilities subcommittee calls for the defense secretary to provide an assessment that defines "intelligence activities and programs, including definitions of intelligence activities and programs unique to special operations." The assessment -- to be prepared in conjunction with the under secretary of defense for intelligence, the assistant secretary of defense for special operations and low-intensity conflict, and the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency -- should also lay out a "validated strategy and roadmap of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance programs and requirements for special operations across the future years defense program," according to the mark.
