Continuing Resolution Would Delay Standup Of Huey Replacement Office

The Air Force is aiming for production of a new helicopter to replace the UH-1N Huey to begin as early as 2017, but a continuing resolution in Congress could put a snag in the service's near-term planning. The Air Force is conducting market research with industry to refine its acquisition strategy and find potential platforms which could meet its requirements for a Huey replacement. A rough time line from the service draws out a strategy panel by mid-to-late fiscal year 2016 and contract award by 2017, with aircraft delivery following as soon as possible, said Dave Schairbaum, system program manager for the UH-1N replacement program, in a Sept. 4 interview with Inside the Air Force.
