DOD's Contract Obligations Exceed Those Of All Other Agencies Combined

The Defense Department's fiscal year 2014 contract obligations totaled $285 billion, more than all of the other federal agencies' combined contract obligations, according to a new report from the Congressional Research Service. Services accounted for 45 percent of the Pentagon's contract obligations, while goods made up another 45 percent. Research and development obligations accounted for 10 percent, down significantly from the past.
