Kendall directs DSB study of U.S. military's homeland defense role

The Pentagon's acquisition executive has directed a new look at the U.S. military's homeland defense role and wants recommendations for how the Defense Department - in light of threats that have grown more complex since Sept. 11, 2001- should adjust its capability portfolio and posture in order to be best prepared in the event of a "major attack" on the United States. Frank Kendall, the under secretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, has commissioned the Defense Science Board - an influential advisory panel - to form a task force on the "Role of DOD in Homeland Defense," revisiting a subject the panel explored twice since the 2001 terrorist attacks that upended the nation's post-Cold War security posture.
