The Navy will deploy this fall the modified version of the supersonic Standard Missile-6 that is capable of targeting enemy ships, the service has confirmed. The "emergency activation and deployment" of the anti-ship-capable SM-6 is planned for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2016, according to slides presented by the Navy's program executive office for integrated warfare systems at a March 3 naval engineering conference in Arlington, VA. The slides did not offer any more details on the deployment.
