DOD preparing reciprocal defense procurement pact with Japan

The Pentagon is seeking input from U.S. industry on its experience in public defense procurements executed by Japan's armed forces, feedback that will inform negotiations over a planned "reciprocal defense procurement" pact between the Defense Department and Japan's Ministry of Defense. On Dec. 31, the office of the Pentagon's acquisition shop solicited industry feedback in anticipation of hammering out a Reciprocal Defense Procurement Memorandum of Understanding with Japan, an objective set forth as part of the April 2015 Guidelines for U.S.-Japan Defense Cooperation, an expansion of the alliance that aims to foster more seamless cooperation between the two militaries.
