DOD reviewing 'all options' on path forward for delayed Poland BMD site

The Missile Defense Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers are determining how to proceed with delayed Aegis Ashore site in Poland, according to MDA's director, as they attempt a "carrot and stick approach" to get the contractor on track to complete construction by 2022, four years later than initially planned. MDA Director Vice Adm. Jon Hill and the Army Corps of Engineers are "reviewing all options to determine the best path forward" with Aegis Ashore Poland, according to Hill's testimony submitted for a House Armed Services strategic forces subcommittee hearing. "Importantly, the contractor, at the President and CEO level, recently re-affirmed their intentions to finish the military construction portion of this project," Hill wrote. "We have also recently implemented additional contractual measures to guide the prime construction contractor in prioritizing tasks to complete items required to support the Navy installation and the Aegis weapon system." In 2016, the Army Corps of Engineers awarded Amec Foster Wheeler a $183 million contract to build of the Aegis Ashore site in Poland. The company was bought in 2017 by the John Woods Group, a multinational energy services company based in Aberdeen, Scotland.
