You know the sender, and have received this same file attachment repeatedly in all of his emails, without any explanation. It's likely he's sending you the emails in HTML format-which can include special formatting, pictures, etc.-and your email application only interprets plain text. Since your program can't display the graphics, they're included in your message as attachments that require a separate program to view.
