As the price for the NYMEX gas futures contract was on its waynto a 10-year low, the market has concurrently hit daily open interestnrecords on the inflow of fresh short positions, analysts said. Asnof Wednesday, open interest in the gas futures market had surgednas high as 1,143,789 contracts, according to CME Group data.nOpen interest in gas has increased sharply since the Februaryncontract took the prompt-month position. Since December 28,nopen interest has jumped by around 14.6%, “suggesting thatnfresh selling has had a major impact on prices,” noted CameronnHanover President Peter Beutel.
