Final US FERC environmental report flags significant impacts from Alaska LNG

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission released the finalenvironmental impact statement for the Alaska LNG export terminaland related pipeline, moving the 20 million mt/year project a stepcloser to a FERC decision while finding a variety of significant adverseimpacts.FERC staff, in the March 6 report, concluded that most of theproject impacts would not be significant or would be reduced to lessthan-significant levels. But it still found significant long-term topermanent impacts on thousands of acres: about 6,218 acres of thawsensitive permafrost, 3,499 acres of thaw stable permafrost, 12,440acres of forest and 8,225 acres of wetlands.
