Lung cancer is the abnormal growth of cells in either one or both lungs. These abnormal cells can form tumors, which can obstruct functioning of the lungs and hence result in low amount of oxygen being transmitted to the body via blood. Cigarette smoking is considered as the principal risk factor for development of lung cancer. As lung cancer gets worse, its symptoms can include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and bloody mucus. According to the American Lung Association, an estimated 159, 260 Americans are expected to die from lung cancer in 2014, accounting for approximately 27% of all cancer deaths. Lung cancer treatment involves a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
