The Yankee dryer has always been a critical element of tissue machines. The combined action of Yankee and hood determines the drying of the sheet, so it has a substantial influence on plant performance. The drying of the sheet is an intensive process and the Yankee dryers contribution is significant. So any possible energy saving related to it should be of interest to tissue makers. In the past, some companies started manufacturing steel Yankee dryers, but encountered limitations in terms of maintenance of thermal stability during trials and they also struggled with the construction process. Development was therefore curtailed and the product did not prosper in the tissue industry.
