Preparation and Properties of Barium Fluoride scintillating Ceramics

Barium fluoride ceramics were prepared in air form various starting powders. IR to UV transmit- tance data, as well as the gamma-luminescence spectra measured as a function of gamma dose, demonstrate that BaF_2 ceramics prepared at temperatures no higher than 600 deg. C are not only potential scintillating materials but also promising optical materials for IR devices.
