Laser-enhanced thermal oxidation of polycrystalline titanium was studied using mid- and near-IR cw laser radiation with power densities in the range 10-25 W/cm~2 ,It is found that laser irradiation may both enhance and reduce the rate of oxide growth in comparison with thermal oxidation under the same conditions.
