Is safety-sealed packaging only for the able-bodied?

With the right sealing design and technology, packaging inclusivity is possible. Today's customers increasingly demand assurance that food products are safely sealed, not just against leakage, loss of freshness and reduced shelf life but to deter malicious tampering. Sadly, for people with weakened gripping ability, opening containers fitted with additional security features can sometimes be difficult or impossible. Even the fittest and healthiest of us may have trouble from time to time with metal lids tightly applied by steam capping. Plastic screw tops with tamper-evident break rings are also a challenge for some. Meanwhile, child-safe caps which need to be simultaneously pushed down or squeezed while turning may be equally effective at denying access to adults.
