In recent years German consumer behaviour has changed enormously in respect of food and nutrition. On the one hand there is ncreasing emphasis on quality and safety, in addition to nutritional aspects, and on the other there is a growing trend towards quick and simple preparation. Convenience products have come into vogue throughout Europe. Whether the foods are ready to eat or partially cooked, the short preparation times satisfy the consumer's wish to save time and enjoy unusual dishes or tasty snacks. Convenience plays a major role in the bulk consumer market too: the shortage of experienced staff in the restaurant and catering trade makes quick, simple and reliable preparation methods essential.
