Millions of people worldwide suffer from cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye diseases. Although surgery provides an option in some cases, doctors often treat these diseases with eye drops loaded with powerful drugs. Only approximately 5% of the drug in the eye drops penetrates the cornea and reaches the targeted ocular tissue, however, and the rest goes to other organs in the body.
