摘要

To achieve success, do not follow anyone else's path, says H Robert Horvitz, winner of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Instead, he advises young researchers to follow their hearts and passions, with training from mentors who do good work in their fields rather than those with "labels". Switching from mathematics to biology only after graduating from college, Horvitz's personal experience convinced him that it is never too late to go after one's interests. By being rigorous, creative, and different from everybody else, he not only caught up in his new pursuit but also went on to make a major breakthrough. He tells INNOVATION'S Lay Leng TAN that doing different things provides one opportunities for learning and growth.
