The Neonatal Check

The ‘baby check’ is a physical examination focusing on general features and neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, abdominal and genitourinary systems. This should be performed within 72 hours following birth, allowing early detection of physical abnormalities and prompt referral to specialist services for timely intervention. The neonatal check allows time for parents to convey any concerns and provides GPs the chance for early child health promotion.
