Competing in a global economy demands that businesses adapt and innovate at an ever-increasing pace. Yet in many companies, the perception is that IT organizations have difficulty delivering the productivity gains that business requires. The root of this problem: most companies create optimal processes for the business and expect IT to implement those strategies through a separate IT approach. In some organizations, business and IT formulate strategies in isolation and then attempt to merge them. Because IT is typically funded on a line-of-business basis, siloed IT programs designed to meet discrete business needs become the norm. And the perception persists that IT is perpetually "behind" in meeting business needs.
