It's not that I hold grudges or anything, but the other day, I ran across an infotoday.com NewsBreak that I wrote last October, and I started musing about a negative experience that happened a decade earlier. (Caveat, vendors! Never deny a journalist any information she seeks.) In fact, it reminded me of a number of irritating experiences connected with a specific vendor. I won't mention any names ... all right, it was OCLC. In those days, OCLC defended its franchise database, WorldCat, from use by anybody except subscribers. Every defense mechanism except a moat was in full operation.
