Leading the Way in Tampa

The Special Libraries Association (SLA) held its Leadership Sum-mit in Tampa, Fla., at the end of January. Known as the Winter Meeting until last year, SLA is repositioning this gathering from a training session for chapter and division officers to a more general inculcation of leadership values for all association members. Unlike the American Library Association's Midwinter Meeting, SLA's Leadership Summit offered meeting sponsors—Thomson Dialog, LexisNexis, Fac-tiva, Thomson Scientific, and EBSCO— but no exhibits. According to the official SLA pronouncement, "The Leadership Summit is a midyear meeting that brings together SLA's Board, Chapter and Division Cabinets, conference planners and Committees for governance training and meetings to further advance the activities of the Association and its units." This year's meeting did some of that, and more.
