In the February 2004 issue of Information Today, Dick Kaser, Information Today, Inc.'s vice president of content, reported on the first-phase conference of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), which was held in Geneva in December 2003. His article, "World Summit Embraces Access, Libraries," pointed out WSIS's laudable aims to improve information access across the developing world. It also indicated that the concerns of wealthy countries and big business were being pushed to the forefront of the agenda. Now, more than a year later, preparations are in full swing for the second-phase conference, set for Nov. 16-18 in Tunisia. So this is a good time to review progress on activities established at the initial meeting and to discuss plans for the Tunisian agenda.
