The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) just released its third in a series of reports on current scholarly publishing practices and changes in policy and practice since 2000. For the study, 400 journal publishers (both commercial and not-for-profit) participated. Here are highlights from the report: Publishers are launching new journals at a higher rate than in 2005; pricing models are as complex and diverse as they were in 2005; licensing terms are more generous; open access advocacy has had an effect on publishers' thinking; fewer publishers are requiring authors to transfer copyright to the publisher and will accept a license to publish instead; and publishers are in different stages of implementing Web 2.0 technologies.
