When it comes to playing with new technology tools, especially those that are browser-or web-based, I'm usually first in line and eagerly waiting for my chance to download the newest application. For example, I tried Google's new browser today called Chrome within 30 minutes of it being accessible (it's an incredibly fast tool, one which I will write about in a future column). But most of the tools I try out don't see the light of day on anyone's desktop, and most get deleted from my computer the same day that I download them. Few become huge hits in the online world. And I have been slow to try out some tools. Most of these are social tools that hit the mainstream market with such force that, once they started appearing at library conferences and popular newspapers, I was already behind the curve without a thought as to why I should bother to dive in at that point. Most of these tools will wind up dying out, right? Or so I thought.
