I just read your article in Information Today, "Putting Academic Fair Use to the Test" [by George H. Pike]. I thought it was a helpful overview that explains the situation and issues clearly. However, I'm writing because I noticed a quote that is incorrect. I'm sure it's just an oversight, but the quote from copyright law is listed as "criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research," when, according to the law posted at www.copyright.gov/titlel7/92chapl.html#107, it should read as "criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research," (emphasis mine). Personally, I think it's also important to include the "such as"that comes right before the portion quoted, as that makes it clear that the list is representative rather than exhaustive.
