Imagine that you're looking through a book on architecture and discover an illustration of a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Since you would like to see the house in greater detail, you take out your phone and point it at the illustration. With your phone's electronic eyes, the view of the book is now a 3D image of the house emerging fromrnthe page, much like a hologram. You can turn the book around to see the image of the house from the back and then hit a button to select a cutaway view of one of the rooms to see its layout. Does this sound as though it's science fiction? Yes, but thanks to the growing field of augmented reality, such technology is closer than you might think.
